If you’re heading to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza with a general admission ticket, you’ll be part of one of the most atmospheric race weekends on the calendar. Known as the Temple of Speed, Monza is surrounded by parkland, and while many of the best seats are in the grandstands, there are still some excellent viewing areas for general admission fans. The layout is very fast, so your GA experience will be different to more technical circuits, but if you pick the right spots, you’ll enjoy some fantastic views and a unique vibe. Here’s a guide to the best general admission areas around Monza.

Prima Variante – Turns 1 and 2

The most popular GA spot is at the first chicane, right after the start/finish straight. The cars arrive here at top speed and brake hard into a tight right-left sequence. It’s one of the best places to see overtaking, and the first lap is always full of action. There’s plenty of grassy space, but it gets very crowded, so it’s best to arrive early if you want a good place. Big screens are usually nearby so you can follow the rest of the race.

Curva Biassono (Curva Grande) – Turn 3

After the first chicane, the cars sweep through Curva Biassono at full throttle. The GA space here is limited but gives you a real sense of the speed as the cars blast past almost flat-out. It’s not a big overtaking spot, but it’s worth visiting to experience the pure pace of Formula 1 at Monza.

Seconda Variante (Variante della Roggia) – Turns 4 and 5

Further along the track, the second chicane is another good option. Cars arrive here quickly and often battle for position under braking. The GA areas have grassy banks with clear sightlines, and it’s usually a little less crowded than the first chicane. It’s a fun place to watch mistakes and overtakes as drivers fight for track position.

Lesmo 1 and Lesmo 2 – Turns 6 and 7

The Lesmo corners are very popular with fans. These two medium-speed right-handers are tricky for the drivers, and you often see cars running wide onto the gravel. The GA zones here are on hills, so you get a good elevated view of the action. It’s also one of the liveliest areas on the track, with a fantastic atmosphere from the tifosi.

Serraglio – Between Turns 7 and 8

Between Lesmo 2 and Ascari, there’s a long flat-out section called the Serraglio. The GA areas here give you a sense of just how fast the cars are as they head towards Ascari. It’s not the best for overtaking, but the speed and noise make it worth a short visit.

Variante Ascari – Turns 8, 9 and 10

One of the best GA spots at Monza is around Ascari. This fast left-right-left section really shows how well the cars handle at high speed. The grassy areas here are slightly raised, which gives you a wider view of the sequence. It’s a great place to spend a session, and it’s usually less packed than the first chicane or Parabolica.

Curva Parabolica (Curva Alboreto) – Turn 11

The final corner is one of the most iconic in Formula 1. From the GA section at Parabolica, you can see the cars carry huge speed through the long right-hander before blasting down the main straight. It’s also close to fan zones and food stalls, so it’s a convenient spot if you want to relax between sessions. Space fills up quickly here too, so it’s worth arriving early.

Main Straight

There is GA space along the main straight, set back behind the grandstands. The view isn’t as clear as other zones, but it’s a great place to feel the atmosphere at the race start and see the cars crossing the finish line. After the chequered flag, fans usually get onto the track here to run to the podium for the famous celebration under the podium.

Helpful tips

  • Arrive early, especially on Sunday. Popular GA spots like the Lesmo corners (Turns 6–7) or around Ascari (Turns 8–10) fill up quickly
  • Bring a folding chair or picnic blanket. Most GA areas are on grassy banks or uneven ground, so having something to sit on makes the day a lot more comfortable.
  • Pack sun protection. There’s very little shade in the park, so sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and plenty of water are essential.
  • Be ready for rain. Even if the forecast looks good, carry a raincoat or small umbrella. If it rains, the grassy areas can get muddy and slippery fast.
  • Take your own food and drinks. Queues at food stalls can be long, especially on race day. A refillable water bottle is handy too as there are refill points around the circuit.
  • Go with a group plan. If you’re with friends or family, take turns going for food or toilet breaks so someone can always hold your spot
  • Explore on Friday and Saturday. Walk around and check different GA zones before race day so you know where you want to watch from on Sunday.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Monza is a big circuit, and you’ll do a lot of walking on uneven ground. Avoid your nicest shoes because if it rains, the mud will ruin them quickly.
